The program featured Indian classical singer, Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya and his talented wife, Durba Bhattacharyya. The event was held at Hindu Samaj Temple with a house full of audience. The Women’s Outreach Group (WOG) provided tea and snacks and helped assure the comfort and enjoyment of all the audience. Tabla accompaniment was provided by the well known Toronto performer, Shri Kishore Kulkarni. Pandit Shantanu, a young classical Kolkota singer provided an evening of Thumri, Dadra, Hori, Bhajan & light classical. He treated the audience to a silky, melodious voice, while Durba provided both vocal and musical accompaniment. The couple treated us to beautiful renderings of Ragas and charmed all those who attended. The performers were given standing ovations and the evening was enjoyed by all.

Invited Lecture and Brain Storming Session

India Canada Society of Hamilton Region (ICS) organized a “Invited Lecture and Brain Storming Session” for its members and non-members on 8th September 2012. The main purpose and focus of the event was to gather feedback from the members for the potential events that would encourage increased member participation and community awareness. With over fifty members participation, the event started with the keynote lecture from a very senior, renowned, and dedicated ICS life member Dr. Harish Jain, who emphasized the wisdom, virtues, and values of “Civic Awareness” in his interesting and thoughtful provoking talk. Following his lecture, all participated in the Brain Storming discussion. It was suggested that ICS should interact more with other non-profit organization to increase its visibility, introduce events that would focus more on Canadian Heritage along with South Asian Heritage, and increase youth participation. A brief summary of the brain storming session was emailed to all ICS member at the later date.
